HSM for more Data Protection in Hospitals
Destruction of archive data from the GHI Le Raincy – Montfermeil
The GHI Le Raincy – Montfermeil hospital relies on HSM for its data protection needs. The HSM Powerline FA 400.2 high-volume shredder securely destroys old and no longer needed patient information. This not only ensures maximum data security but also frees up much-needed storage space in the central archive.
About the GHI Hospital
GHI Le Raincy – Montfermeil is part of the Grand Paris Nord-Est healthcare network and manages extensive medical and administrative archives. The hospital‘s philosophy is based on the highest level of security for patient data and sustainable processes. Archiving is carried out in accordance with statutory retention periods – a challenge given the ever-increasing volume of data.
The starting point
Before investing in the HSM Powerline high-volume document shredder, the hospital used an external service provider to collect and destroy its old archive documents. This solution was not only expensive but also inflexible. It was unclear who came into contact with the confidential patient data and where. Furthermore, there was no way to schedule the shredding at the hospital‘s own pace. The lack of space in the archive and the high destruction costs made a better solution urgently necessary.

Decision in favour of the high-volume document shredder from HSM
The choice fell on the HSM Powerline FA 400.2 with security level P-4. This model guarantees the confidential destruction of sensitive information at high throughput thanks to its integrated feed conveyor. With a capacity of approximately 5 tons of paper per year and usage of 2 to 3 hours daily, five days a week, the machine meets all the hospital‘s requirements. The shredded particles are collected in 360- and 660-liter containers and subsequently integrated into the recycling loop by the city of Chelles – a benefit for the environment.
Economic operation
The investment quickly pays for itself: Compared to the previous disposal method using an external service provider, the hospital saves around € 8,000 annually. This means the purchase was amortized in a short time. In addition, valuable archive space has been freed up, significantly increasing efficiency in hospital operations.
Collaboration with HSM
The collaboration with HSM went smoothly. Following project planning and installation, comprehensive training was provided to the operating personnel. HSM France‘s technical service is always available to the hospital, offering expert support. Confidence in the robust technology and high quality of the product is high – the overall rating is 10 out of 10 points.
Conclusion
With the HSM Powerline FA 400.2 conveyor belt shredder, GHI Le Raincy – Montfermeil has found a central solution for the secure and economical destruction of archived data. The project demonstrates how data protection, cost efficiency, and sustainability can be successfully combined.
