At the second international HSM partner conference, from October 20th to 22nd 2005 in Lisbon, Portugal, all the proceeds from playing in the famous Casino Estoril went to a charitable cause. More than 60 participants at the conference donated their winnings to two charitable projects in Honduras, Central America. HSM also chipped in with a contribution that brought the total amount to almost six thousand euros.
Jason Jones from SET Office, Cardiff/UK had the highest winnings at playing roulette and won a trip to Honduras in the process so he could personally hand over the donation as a cheque. He was there with his colleague, Phillip McElveen at the end of March and saw that the money was well invested. He handed over half of the donation to the children's village, Rancho Santa Fe, where nearly six hundred orphans or abandoned children have found a new home. Rancho Santa Fe is one of several children's villages in the whole of the Caribbean which currently take care of nearly three thousand children. In some cases children live there with their parents, if for example, the mother or father needs to be hospitalized as a result of AIDS. These children's villages allow children and their families to spend the last months or weeks of their lives together.
The second half of the money went towards supporting the relief organisation Asociación Nuevo Amanecer (ANA) which aims to give children and youths a sound education at school as well as job training. Jason Jones and Phillip McElveen were both impressed with the organisation's work and proudly presented the cheque to Edi Fellmann, the founder and head of Asociación Nuevo Amanecer. As well as the official part of the trip, Jason Jones and Phillip McElveen were able to spend a some time relaxing on the Caribbean beaches and getting to know a bit about the people and country. It was an unforgettable trip for both of them leaving them with lasting impressions and one that gave them the chance to meet some extraordinarily warm-hearted people.
