2011-08-01 - SITA relies on the innovative fully-automatic channel baling press from HSM
SITA Deutschland GmbH is one of the largest German providers of disposal services, with over 100 facilities and more than 3,000 staff across Germany. This Hochheim-based company has recently been making successful use of the HSM VK 12018 R fully automatic channel baling press with its pressing power of 1,200 kN as well as a frequency-regulated drive and conveyor belt technology.
Mixed paper, cardboard as well as a small amount of foil, up to a maximum material size of DIN A0, can be pressed. The material is fed using a wheeled loader as well as a new subsurface charging and loading conveyor.
In practical use at SITA, the HSM VK 12018 R achieves a throughput capacity of 35 tons an hour when loaded with mixed paper, meaning a finished bale is ejected every 100 seconds. In one-shift operation, up to 300 tons of mixed paper are processed this way – and this at a total drive power of just 2 x 55 kW. The noise level produced by the system remains under 80 dB(A), despite its enormous productivity.
The bales comprised of materials such as paper, cardboard or boxes can reach a weight of up to 1,000 kg, producing a bale format of 1,100 x 1,100 x 1,200 mm (width x height x length) which can be easily sold. A bale which can be compressed this compactly means less wire is used, and handling is reduced.
The innovative, frequency-controlled drive optimises the unit’s energy efficiency. Power consumption is reduced by up to 40% compared with conventional drive technology. Along with the energy savings, the frequency-controlled drive provides other benefits, such as potential process optimisation by adjusting the speed to the production process and other external factors. The gentle operation of the motor reduces the number of starts and stops, and avoids any unnecessarily harsh loading of the machine components.
